Why this happens
SSI is paid on the 1st of every month. When the 1st falls on a Saturday, Sunday or federal holiday, Social Security pays on the business day before, which can be the last business day of the previous month. That leaves one month with two deposits and the next month with none. The total you receive over the year does not change.

The July 31, 2026 deposit has to cover August. There is no SSI deposit in August; the next one is Tuesday, September 1, 2026.

Why are there two SSI payments in July 2026?
SSI is due on the 1st of each month. August 1, 2026 is a Saturday, so Social Security pays the August SSI payment early, on Friday, July 31, 2026. Your regular July payment arrives Wednesday, July 1, 2026.
Is the second SSI payment in July extra money?
No. It is your August 2026 payment, paid early. The amount is your normal monthly SSI.
Will I get an SSI payment in August 2026?
No. Because the August payment already arrived on July 31, 2026, there is no SSI deposit in August. Your next payment after that is on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
Do Social Security and SSDI also pay twice this month?
No. Social Security and SSDI are paid once a month on your birthday Wednesday or the 3rd. Only SSI, which is due on the 1st, gets paid early into the previous month.
How should I budget for the early payment?
Treat the July 31, 2026 deposit as money for August. It has to last until your next deposit on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
