Why this happens
SSI is paid on the 1st of every month. When the 1st falls on a Saturday, Sunday or federal holiday, Social Security pays on the business day before, which can be the last business day of the previous month. That leaves one month with two deposits and the next month with none. The total you receive over the year does not change.
Make the May money last
The April 30, 2027 deposit has to cover May. There is no SSI deposit in May; the next one is Tuesday, June 1, 2027.
Two SSI payments in April: common questions
Why are there two SSI payments in April 2027?
SSI is due on the 1st of each month. May 1, 2027 is a Saturday, so Social Security pays the May SSI payment early, on Friday, April 30, 2027. Your regular April payment arrives Thursday, April 1, 2027.
Is the second SSI payment in April extra money?
No. It is your May 2027 payment, paid early. The amount is your normal monthly SSI.
Will I get an SSI payment in May 2027?
No. Because the May payment already arrived on April 30, 2027, there is no SSI deposit in May. Your next payment after that is on Tuesday, June 1, 2027.
Do Social Security and SSDI also pay twice this month?
No. Social Security and SSDI are paid once a month on your birthday Wednesday or the 3rd. Only SSI, which is due on the 1st, gets paid early into the previous month.
How should I budget for the early payment?
Treat the April 30, 2027 deposit as money for May. It has to last until your next deposit on Tuesday, June 1, 2027.
